Grizzly Bear Tours
Notoriously elusive, grizzly bears make a rare exception in late August, September and October when they descend on the Orford River to feast on spawning salmon. Here, where they are at ease in their natural habitat and intent on a task, we catch a glimpse of the grizzlies few get to see.
Your journey begins with a short voyage up Bute Inlet, through the Arran rapids to the Orford River. An experienced Homalco First Nation guide takes you, by vehicle, through beautiful moss-covered rainforests to various bear viewing towers on the banks of the river. Throughout the tour, guides will share their knowledge about the bears, salmon, Homalco people and their ties to the land.
Typically, many bears are seen on this tour; however, it is not possible to guarantee bear sightings in natural habitat like the Orford River. To best enjoy this tour, guests must be able to comfortably board and exit the vessel, walk up and down a steep dock ramp at Orford Bay, stand for an extended period, board and exit the shuttle van and climb a flight of stairs multiple times.
This tour is available August 15 to October 15 and is subject to availability.
