Snorkel with the Salmon

The rivers around here rush cold and crystal clear. The best way to experience their splendour is to immerse yourself: push off from the shore, feel the surge beneath your feet and the spray on your face. You needn’t be a daredevil to get a thrill.

Their streamlined bodies colouring the water silver and red, thousands of Pacific salmon return to their home rivers to spawn. Taking you to where they convene, we set you up to view from a raft or don a wetsuit and snorkel in river pools alongside the fish. All five species show up over the course of the run, starting with pinks in late July; chinook, coho and sockeye in August and September; and, chum capping off the season. You may not be the only curious spectator—black bears, eagles, beavers, seals, weasels, deer and kingfishers have been known to drop by too.
