Sonora Partnerships

Community

Sonora Resort is proud to support our First Nations partners, tourism partners, farmers, artisans, and local businesses that preserve the unique character of the communities we serve. We’re dedicated to developing longstanding partnerships with these organizations to help our local business economy thrive and to curate truly unique experiences and activities for our guests.

HOMALCO FIRST NATION

The XEW’MALHKWU, or Homalco, First Nation are known as the people of the fast running waters. This refers to the coursing tidal waters of their traditional territories in the area running from Dent Island just north of Sonora Island, over to Raza Passage and extending over the entire Bute Inlet. Their main village sites were located at the Homathko River, Southgate River, the mouth of Bute Inlet and at Orford Bay, where Sonora Resort takes our guests to join Homalco Tours for their incredible Grizzly Tour

KWIAKAH FIRST NATION

The Kwiakah First Nation are Lekwala-speaking peoples whose traditional territory is located in the Phillips River and Frederick’s Arm region, just Northeast of Sonora Resort. The Kwiakah is one of the smallest Nations in BC, but they are having a big impact in protecting the environment in their territory by encouraging research and conservation in the Phillips River Conservancy, and through their tourism partnership with Sonora Resort. Sonora showcases the incredible territory of the Kwiakah people in the Phillips River valley on our Ecological tour and fly fishing trips.

LONDON AIR SERVICES

London Air Services, a sister company to Sonora Resort, provides global charter flights aboard Bombardier Jets and Agusta Westland Helicopters. They offer regularly scheduled helicopter trips between Vancouver and Sonora Resort to travel without anxiety or delays. TWO RIVERS SPECIALTY MEATS

Two Rivers Meats has been supplying delectable BC-sourced specialty meat products for the Tyee Dining Room for many years. Their natural meat products are locally sourced, and they maintain active healthy relationships with their local farmers. You won’t find any hormones, antibiotics or chemical feed additives here—just fresh products with rich, natural flavours.

GLORIOUS ORGANICS

You will almost always see Glorious Organics’ baby vegetable varieties garnishing our plates at Sonora Resort because the flavour and quality of their heirloom produce is unbeatable. Glorious Organic grows more than 30 varieties of certified organic heirloom vegetables and fruits and was named Vancouver Magazine’s Producer of the Year in 2019.

CRABBY BOB’S SEAFOOD

Crabby Bob’s Seafood, located in Campbell River, delights our guests with the impressive Dungeness Crabs featured in our exclusive Sonora Crab Dinner. We receive fresh live crabs regularly and keep them in the live wells under our dock, submerged in the cold clean waters of the Yuculta rapids.

BARNSTON ISLAND HERBS

Barnston Island Herbs have been a part of Sonora’s kitchen for many years. They are a local grower of herbs, greens, and vegetables from their own farm, and they also source local vegetables and organics from other organic suppliers.

VANCOUVER ISLAND BREWING

Guests can enjoy an award-winning local craft beer from Vancouver Island Brewing in the Tyee Dining room after an adventure-filled day. We recommend checking out the Pacific Salmon Foundation Lager, where a portion of sales go to the Pacific Salmon Foundation. Supporting local beer and the local salmon stocks at the same time- now that’s a good reason to raise a glass.

HAYWIRE WINES

We’re proud to partner with Haywire Wines, who offers pure, delicate wines emblematic of the spectacular Okanagan Valley. Today, their venture includes Okanagan Crush Pad, a 45,000 case winery, and Garnet Valley Ranch, a 320-acre organic farm and vineyard, and the 50-acre Secrest Mountain Vineyard in Oliver. All three vineyards are organic certified.
