Sonora Resort, Canada’s world-class wilderness retreat, reopens its island paradise for the 2025 season on May 1. Located on the edge of the Great Bear Rainforest, Sonora Resort is renowned for its unparalleled remote access to British Columbia’s pristine wilderness, elegant accommodations, warm hospitality, five-star facilities, and gourmet cuisine.
“Sonora Resort is located in one of the most beautiful places in the world, surrounded by incredible biodiversity and wildlife,” says Kaitlin Ross, General Manager of Sonora Resort, who has been with the property since 2005. “We’re thrilled to welcome guests for a full season through to October 15, and to share everything this region has to offer—from abundant wildlife and world-class salmon fishing to the exquisite cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Justine Smith and her team.”
The 2025 season will surely be filled with Sonora Resort’s memorable activities and experiences, from a variety of fishing options, ocean adventures, wilderness escapes, to once-in-a-lifetime helicopter glacier visits, relaxing spa treatments, and gourmet meals.

Canadian Resident Rate
In response to the Canadian’s market interest in domestic travel, Sonora launched a Canadian Resident Rate offering 10% off all-inclusive accommodation rates between May – June and October 2025. Canadian residents are treated to exclusive savings to explore their own backyard, experiencing breathtaking wildlife encounters, unparalleled adventure and world class amenities and hospitality.
Gillard Lodge Refresh
Gillard Lodge has received a light refresh, blending rustic charm with subtle modern touches to enhance the guest experience.
Spa Treatment Update
Island Currents Spa has refreshed its treatment menu with experiences inspired by the rugged beauty of the West Coast wilderness, using Canadian-made products and natural ingredients. Guests can indulge in the Sea Salt & Kelp Body Scrub, featuring wild rockweed and a soothing mini facial, or rejuvenate with the Fisherman’s Sea Radiance Facial, which harnesses marine elements and vitamin C to boost elasticity and reduce the signs of aging.
Cost Savings: Carbon Surcharge Removal
In alignment with recent federal and provincial policy changes, Sonora has eliminated the carbon surcharge from all rates. Guests will now see a reduced cost—up to $320 in savings on a two-night stay for two—making the Sonora experience even more affordable throughout the 2025 season.
